Can you list your three favourite rugby movies? Tough isn’t it…I bet nothing really springs to mind. Invictus was a big budget production but wasn’t that great, the side splitting comedy Number 10 was only good for a laugh, so if you were really hard pressed to name a favourite, then Leon Schuster’s Sweet and Short would probably be left as a clear winner.
So to improve on this rather dire state of affairs, TheBounce has gotten the ball rolling with a whole string of potential rugby based blockbusters just itching to put into production. By making a subtle cast change here and there these movies can be adapted into some quality sporting epics for the ages. So if you are a movie producer, feel free to be inspired and get cracking with these amazing titles.
Avatar
Easy one to start with. Dewalt Potgieter with his flowing locks and Avatar like strength and agility make him a shoe in for the lead role in this rugby adaptation.
The people vs Joost van der Westhuizen
Joost is a spicy individual and his sex scandal will make Larry Flynt’s story look slightly one dimensional.
Get the green and gold or die trying
From the cape flats to the heights of Springbok rugby, the Ashwin Willemse story would pop a cap in the ass of Fiddy’s luke warm life story and inspire the tik generation to put down the pipe and pick up the ball.
Jaco
Never shy to put himself into the spotlight, Jaco van der Westhuizen is most famous for his “Jesus is king” antics after Super 14 finals. Hard line religious exposure is deemed to be very offensive nowadays, so our man Jaco could then easily slip into the role of Bruno – their voice are the same after all.
Lord of the rucks – Return of the king
When Schalk was out of rugby the game suffered. In the story of Lord of the Rings the King had to return to complete the trilogy. It’s like Tolkien intended this adaptation to be made.
Bakkies IV
Last but not least, Bakkies IV. A movie with nothing but montages of Bakkies dishing out poes klap after poes klap. The cinemas in the East Rand alone will be sold out for an entire year.
