At the beginning of this year I made the effort to start a sports blog and came up with TheBounce. Based on my favourite things and with absolutely no intentions of being a serious sports authority, I compiled a series of posts each week which illustrated sport from my view point. As the year comes to a close and I go on holiday, I thought I would leave you with my favourite posts from the year – and in doing so provide you with some essential holiday reading.
Interviews
In 2010 I was lucky enough to pick the brains of some special sporting individuals – these were my favourites.
SARugbydotcom’s Gareth Rosslee
All Black blogger and all round nice Kiwi Jonny King
And of course the real highlight being,
World exclusive with Paul the Octopus
Rugby
The most prominent sport here on TheBounce is rugby. Naturally then there was a fair amount of it throughout the year with the following pieces bringing me particular pleasure.
Piss off Rassie – Rugby doesn’t need a 20/20
Rugby movies we would like to see
Springboks vs All Blacks at the FNB Stadium
Super 15 and the death of rugby as we like it
10 things to keep in mind when speaking to a real Sharks fan
P Divvy’s Springbok game plans explained
Cricket
Though rugby dominates, Cricket isn’t too far behind and often I would get fingers to keyboard and come up with the odd decent post from time to time.
Top 10 bloody greatest moustaches of cricket
The inaugural Government vs Private school cricket match
20/20 the soon to be tired old stripper of the sporting world
Cricket legends that lost out on the loot
The World Cup
Outside of the top two sports, it was an amazing year in just about every field of play. The FIFA World Cup of course naturally comes to mind first up and was something that we South African’s will never forget. The following posts stuck out for me when I think World Cup.
The amazing 2010 World Cup stadiums
A moment of silence for the Swedish supporters
5 things you can do with your hands Suarez
Final Favourites
The Tiger Woods saga was a real conversation starter and provided many a great laugh throughout the year. Obviously I jumped on the bandwagon here.
5 things that Tiger may say at his first press conference back
Tiger Woods is a turd sandwich
Never one to be too focused on the traditional South African sports, I really enjoyed the 2010 Winter Olympics too. How about those Curlers !
The 2010 Winter Olympics – all you need to know
Speaking of Games, 2010 also staged the Commonwealth Games in India. Wasn’t that covered in controversy early on! Luckily a local hero came to the fore. Yup, I’m talking about Sheila Dikshit.
Are the Commonwealth games in the toilet?
And last but not least, the video section of the blog is something I really try hard to fill with great stuff. Something I think I did alright with by posting these:
The Bakkies Botha of women’s football
The guy who tried to grab the World Cup trophy
Aussies mocking Pieter de Villiers
2010 has been an amazing sporting year. I hope these posts and the others featured each week on TheBounce have made it even more enjoyable for you. 2011 is going to be even bigger and I look forward to having you back here to read all about it.
Plenty of sport during the festive season so catch me on Twitter (@followthebounce) , and if you are going to the Test Match at Newlands in the New Year – I’ll see you there!
