An innovation in Test cricket – The JugCam.

I got a bit of heat over this on Twitter yesterday so I felt a blog post was well within order to elaborate on my idea. Now before those who took offense throw their last mince pie at their computer that I’m writing about this, hear me out, this could be a great addition to Test cricket.

Sweet jugs.

Nowadays you can’t go to a match in any sport without people crapping on about innovations in sport or what will help the game appeal to a wider audience. Well below is my little idea for Test cricket in SA.

We have some exceptionally attractive women in this country, many of whom are sports fans, more specifically cricket fans. This naturally leads to a fair amount of them making their way to our festive cricket grounds over the holiday season where our boys entertain touring teams. Sri Lanka are currently one such team and it is a good thing they won the toss yesterday in Durban and chose to bat, ’cause if they were fielding anywhere near the boundary, they would have most probably been distracted by the many bikini clad supporters.

Though that said, they only had to watch the live transmission on the TV in their changeroom to take all this natural beauty in though, as the broadcasters of the match filled just about every spare moment with sweeping visuals of the lovely ladies, many of whom were enjoying a nice cold jug of the local brew. Naturally the phrase ‘Jugs’ (a slang term similar to that of boobs) popped out on Twitter (and at the ground naturally) as it referred to the girls and drinks, and from there the pictures of said girls enjoying a few drinks at the ground fell under the #tag of #JugCam. All very obvious I know, but I just wanted to be comprehensive from the start so as to better present the concept.

So people started sending in pics under #JugCam which got me thinking, if American sports can have the KissCam, surely we can implement the #JugCam!

Now if you don’t know what the KissCam is, it is very simply a part of the scoreboard which focuses on people in the crowd during breaks of play, when they appear in the KissCam slot, they gotta kiss. You can imagine this can be quite a lot of fun and natually generates a funny drawcard to the fans enjoying the live action.

So as the cameras are already panning our crowds and focusing on the girls, we may as well make a feature of it and, you guessed it, create the JugCam. Can you imagine the attraction! I have watched a lot of cricket in my time and I can’t remember too many people covering up or hiding once they have realized they are on the big screen. It will be a hit for guys and girls alike, okay perhaps the name may need some tweeking to make it sound a little less college frat house, but I’m open for suggestions on naming what is a pretty solid concept.

Great idea.

There is some room for a bit of fun on Twitter too as mobile JugCams, as was discovered during the first day’s play. Naturally you don’t want pervy men stalking women as they are trying to eat a hot dog or anything like that, but you can have a bit of a laugh with your mates and fellow supporters and add some fun to what some people say is a boring game. Balls to changing the actual game with pink balls and the day/night bollocks, let’s get the JugCam going. I guarantee you that even the dreary commentary will improve as a result.

Now THAT is certainly what the doctor ordered.

But enough about what I think, what say you in our poll on the subject?
