Last year was a good year for the blog. We won Best Sports Blog at the 2011 SA Blog Awards and this made me very happy. But not for a second did I think I managed to achieve this by just writing features and posting the odd YouTube video of a footballer taking one to the nuts. Oh no, I think it is fair to say that the monthly BounceGirl feature had a fair amount to do with attracting an audience, so it was with great pleasure that I got to take our BounceGirl of 2011 Caitlin Fox out for a spot of shopping.
Well I didn’t actually take her shopping, jeez, I’m not Richard Gere in Pretty Woman, our favourite sports brand PUMA did, as they generously sponsored the super cool prize for the winner of the BounceGirl 2011 Poll. As Caitlin came out tops in the hotly contested poll, she got to pick and choose some sweet Puma gear to the value of R2000 at their store in Fourways Johannesburg.
Caitlin was August’s BounceGirl last year. If she looks familiar to you it may be because she made it into the finals of SuperSport’s Lady Rugga competition.
She started off rather hesitantly in the big shop so I thought I would try help her out. My suggestion of her taking the new Bulls jersey wasn’t really appreciated though – Caitlin is and says she will always be a Sharks fan.
I decided to then quit while I was slightly behind and let her do her own thing. While I circled and got an education in how rugby boots have well and truly evolved since high school, she managed to shop up a little storm and be all done within half an hour.
Congratulations again to Caitlin for winning our first BounceGirl of the year title, and indeed thanks to you for voting. The BounceGirl feature is moving on to bigger and better things this year with the Sports Illustrated New Model Search of 2012 already presenting a whole host of hot new talent on the site. During the voting process of that competition, two chosen girls each week will be competing for the BounceBadge which will better their chances of progressing in the competition. Naturally this will result in a whole lot more girls to the BounceGirl feature, and a very competitive BounceGirl of 2012 Poll. To see who will claim it after Caitlin, keep it locked on TheBounce each month.
