Sport without Twitter is like a nightclub with no DJ. You may have a decent night out, but there is nothing taking the party to the next level. No worries though, ’cause as a reader of this site I assume you are progressive enough of an individual to know your RTs, @s and 140 character written masterpieces like the best of them. And for that very reason I have the essential lineup for you to follow during SupeRugby to make sure you get the best of the best when it comes to being a fan.
Tank likes his rugby like Barry Ronge likes his movies. But naturally, unlike Barry, he is very much one of the boys and preaches the rugby gospel in a variety of different ways which you can easily assimilate into your everyday life. He gets up early enough to catch the proverbial worm too so you can catch up on a lot before you even hit the coffee. Bit of a media celeb too so look out for some exclusive stuff on the tweets and the odd bit of inside info for good measure.
Love him or hate him, Mark is an expert in all things rugby. He also won the overall New Media Award at the SAB Media awards last year [ just
] so he knows how to get things out there on this medium. Never a mincer of words, Mark makes his opinions known with nothing escaping his eye. He also has the uncanny ability of getting his predictions for the big games rather right (except for last year’s Stormers semi), so if you are a betting fan, he’s worth following just for that.
A rugby comprehensive, Ruggaworld gives you just about all you could possibly want in a rugby sense. Results, previews, articles on their site and of course running commentary on various subjects that are topical.
Another comprehensive, following Ruggaworld and Rugbyfifteen means that you really will want for nothing as they cover every match worth covering in real time. Rugbyfifteen also posts a whole bunch of cool photos from the games and is also up for some rugby banter along the way.
If you follow me there is a good chance you are already following this guy. Sportbilly is a very knowledgeable guy when it comes to rugby, slightly stunted by his love for the Sharks, but knowledgeable none the less. But what he does with that is what makes him worth following. He has a sense of humour as cutting as the Crusaders backline in full flight, no fear of pulling the piss when the moment allows, and when it doesn’t, and also loves a good bit of chat.
Gareth is what you would call a new age man of the sporting media. Intelligent, opinionated and a student of the game and this very medium, Gareth is always up with the play and applies his expertise to cover a unique commentary on all things rugby related on and off the field. He is also an enthusiastic gambler and is more up for a punt than Naas Botha in the 80s. Follow him to learn the ropes to online betting and such.
This list is a comprehensive top 10, and no comprehensive top 10 would be complete without a guy with a proud beard. Apart from growing incredible facial hair, Schalk is the main man when it comes to writing amongst other things the rugby features in Sports Illustrated. A well humoured gent, his tweets are always worth reading with his knowledge of rugby always coming to the fore along with a few extra nuggets of awesomeness.
Tuckbox is your old fashioned made in SA rugby fan. You want a benchmark of what the fans are thinking about, this is your man. Speaking of benchmarks, he is also it when it comes to how a man should enjoy his sport – with good mates, a good amount of beer and attached to a night out. Follow this man – follow rugby entertainment in its intended state.
On to the international flavour. Jonny doesn’t miss anything, seriously, the man does not sleep. If you could tweet for the All Blacks, Jonny would choreograph the tweet haka and put in the 80 minutes without fingers leaving keys. Slightly excessive at times and in a language we can just deem ‘the Queen’s middle earth Engligh’, Jonny is good value in that he is cut from the eat, drink, sleep sport cloth.
Naturally the list is rounded off with an Aussie, and a fine one at that (yes there is such a thing). Nice and edgy, very informative and with opinions that certainly cut the mustard, follow GAGR to broaden your rugby horizons as well as your take on the enemy. They aren’t all bad.
And then naturally follow us on @followthebounce – a reliable source for all things sport and SupeRugby related!
See you on the Twitter.

Good work Bounce, I’ll be sure to follow any I was missing from that list.
Bring on the Super Rugby!
Glad @gagr made your top 10 even if it’s as a quota tweeter!
For Sharks related Super 15 updates look no further than @sharksworld
@sportslinksza or sportslinks.co.za
We aggregate content from over 40 sporting sites (Including the bounce and most of the folks mentioned in the list above ) and put it on one handy page.
Great list and thanks for the Aussie addition. Personally, I’d like to add @SportsAbuse to this list. One of the funniest tweeters out there on all things sports-related.
Bring on 24 Feb 2012!
Happy to report that I am following this top ten already.
I have compiled a list of people I recommend you follow as well.
[...] viewing to get all your bits and bobs for staying in the know. Just like in our post about the Top 10 people to follow on Twitter, the following sites are my personal favourites which I find give you all you really need. There [...]
Ah thanks! This should significantly increase my limited knowledge of a game that’s awesome to watch. Much more scientific football supporter and keen on “developing” with our local flavor too in proudly south African style. Another 10 and a bit to follow, hope to keep up with the blokes, including the sheepmen. Vey handy post!
