There is something about iconic cars that make us stop and stare. Hard to pinpoint what it is exactly; their dynamic presence, sheer beauty or simply because they are something that we just hugely desir,e and would love to see ourselves behind the wheel of.

Earlier this year I proved that the BMW X1 is a manly enough car for a man to drive. This past weekend I drove the hot little Mini Paceman – is it manly enough? No, of course not, when it comes to gender classification this car will always be more Meg Ryan than Private Ryan.
But that’s a pointless discussion, the question here is more; ‘what is the Mini Paceman?’ A cute hatch? A mini SUV? A concept car that escaped from the factory? Let’s find out.

We’ve all heard it before, “ it’s a cool car – for a chick.” The classing of a car as a ‘chick car’ has been taking place for ages and has seen many a good car fall into this category. But is it fair to judge a car like this? Is there a scientific rule behind what makes a car a ‘chick car’, and if so, how does it apply to new models as they become sleeker and more urban orientated.
These are all things that occupied my thoughts last week while driving the BMW X1. A perfectly wonderful car, but one, as I was told on Twitter by many, is a chick car. I however tend to disagree.
As a lover of both cars and the Cape winelands, during the festive season I had the most splendid of days recently by combining both with a visit to the Franschhoek Motor Museum. I grew up in Cape Town, I go back there each year for a holiday, but still I had never been here. But I put that right with a visit to this amazing place that made me feel like a fat kid in a candy store.
Situated at the beautiful L’Ormarins estate in Franschhoek, the collection is said to be 220 in total. Just 80 of those are displayed at any given time though, but no matter the selection, you will be blown away.
I have seen many things on the internet this year, but few have quite caught my eye like this. I’m talking about the BMW Concept 4 Series Coupé, a car I can only describe as staggeringly beautiful.
Wowzer.
Earlier this year while looking back on the history of the BMW 3 Series, I was gushing over the aesthetic improvements made with the latest generation F30 model, but this car has well and truly thrown the bar up even further.
5 months ago BMW South Africa sent a rather friendly gent to my place of work. Said friendly gentleman then asked me to sign a form, after which he gave me a BMW car key. By this stage I was smiling just as much as him, a smile which grew bolder as I walked closer to the bay where he had parked the car that belonged to the key. I pressed the unlock button and in the gloom of the underground parking bay shone a beacon of automotive brilliance – the new BMW 335i
Today however is the day where I return this amazing car. In fact calling it a car just doesn’t seem right, it has been so much more than a car, something so exciting that I never returned home from work in a bad mood, and something so beautiful that I even changed phones so I could upload pictures of it to instagram. Never has a car had such an effect on me, but that has a lot to do with the fact that I have never driven a car as amazing as this.

Tomorrow (5th October) is international James Bond day! 50 years ago a dapper secret agent uttered the immortal words “Bond, James Bond” on the silver screen and the world has been besotted with him ever since. I myself can unashamedly admit to being a complete and utter Bond anorak, I have all the DVDs, the books, even a collection of Bond toy cars…
Now as much as I would love to write about all that makes Bond the ultimate alpha cool male, it is with his cars I shall delve a little deeper.
