Golf Digest Top 100 courses time again. A little later than usual this year but that is because this list is more complete than ever with additional features and layout changes making it more of a must read than ever before. While at the press day for the reopening of the redeveloped Bushwillow course at Randpark, I caught up with assistant editor of the magazine Barry Havenga to get a little more info on the issue.
TheBounce doesn’t miss a moment to grip it and rip it down the middle with all that’s big in the world of golf. Tee it up here for everything about the Majors, Ryder and President Cups and all the other big tournaments where our South African boys shine.
Bushwillow at Randpark – Course review.
As a Capetonian who made his home up here on the Highveld roughly 10 years ago, there were certain things that really endeared me to the place; very approachable women, winters with sun and brilliant golf courses.
Though I could write lengthy colourful and poetic essays on the first two subjects, it is the element of brilliant golf courses that I shall elaborate on today. One in particular, the old Windsor Course at Randpark – now named Bushwillow.
Bounce vs Hazard at Bushwillow (Randpark)
After hours and hours of planning, the first official Bounce vs Hazard golf challenge took place at the newly renovated Bushwillow course at lovely Randpark in Joburg. Team Bounce was lead by Ben Karpinski aka TheBounce, with Team Hazard being headed up by local sporting celebrity Dan Nicholl, the fashion guycon behind Hazard Golf clothing.
Format of the challenge is very simple, both Dan and I both bring a partner, we play stableford betterball matchplay on a suitably brilliant course, sledge the balls off each other all 18 – then in the end when the dust settles, the winners enjoy the fruits of victory. This naturally provides all the ingredients for a titanic battle – something this certainly was from start to finish!

The Masters – Golf’s greatest tournament.
Each year I wax lyrically about how the Masters has no peer. But I won’t go into my borderline obsessive love for the tournament, it’s incredible history and the impossibly perfect golf course that it is played on this time, I shall rather just focus on the tournament itself and what lies ahead. And boy are we in store for a real humdinger of a Major ahead!
Gary Player Interview Bingo.
There is this rather special piece of the internet called I Love You Gary Player. A colourful shrine to the greatest international golfer that ever lived, this tumblr site got me seeing ‘Mr Player’ in a whole new light and I now find myself googling interviews and YouTube videos with him in it for weekly entertainment. This lead to me doing the natural thing in creating – Gary Player Interview Bingo!
Be the first to play the game that is set to take the golfing media world by storm!
The rebirth of the King – Cobra golf clubs rock!
As an awkwardly shy youth, I spent many a day playing golf swinging my way around the courses of Cape Town in all types of conditions. Apart from the endless battle against par and beating whoever you were playing against, equipment was always a big talking amongst my mates and we always enthusing over new clubs and aspired to tee it up with the latest and greatest that the Pro Shops had to offer. So this past Friday at the Puma Cobra Golf experience, I was overwhelmed with child like enthusiasm again as I got to grip it and rip it with all the new models this awesome golf brand has to offer. The result – some of the most fun I have ever had in a golfing environment.
