Wynand is ready for Sonny Bill.

Written by The Editor on . Posted in Features, Rugby

There has been quite a bit of talk this week about the Super 15 game between the Crusaders and the Bulls – more specifically, the match up between Wynand ‘Meisiekind’ Olivier and Sonny Bill Williams.

Goeie donner...

Since making a rather big impression on us in his debut SupeRugby season, every inside centre in the tournament has been dreading the match up against Sonny Bill. This week Wynand gets to step up to the plate against the most hyped up player in rugby union since Jonah Lomu.

Happy Friday all. You get jammed packed sporting weekends, and then you get weekends like this that take it to the next level. Six Super 15 matches, three 6 Nations matches, the biggest game of the Cricket World Cup so far, and then some FA Cup too. Throw in some World Championship golf into the mix for good measure, and it is fair to say that this might not be the weekend to do that bit of DIY that you have been putting off. Below is the fixture list – the bottle store and the lounge await…

Things only step up from here, so to make sure you don’t miss any of the big games, best you get properly acquainted with what’s happening in the world of sport this weekend.

A simply super weekend of sport awaits with storming Super 15 action, strength versus strength at the cricket World Cup and some great golf and football too just for good measure.

That bloody earthquake really has taken the jam out of all our donuts. Not only has it caused major disaster for the towns folk of Crusader territory, it has also robbed us of a great Supe Rugby contest. Here are the other fixtures below:

Highlanders vs Chiefs 08h35

Rebels vs Brumbies 10h40

Cheetahs vs Bulls 19h10

Waratahs vs Reds 10h40

Sharks vs Blues 17h05

Stormers vs Lions 19h10

Are we being turned into sports gluttons?

I grew up in the 80’s. It was acceptable in the 80’s to focus on one sport at a time as sports seasons were literally defined by the weather; cricket in summer, rugby in winter – simple as that.  What made this even easier to follow was that the rest of the world didn’t like us too much so there were no such distractions like international sport in other hemispheres. Added to this there was also no satellite TV so all in all the sports diet was lean – border line army rations lean in fact.

The 80's sports diet - basic.

Super 15 and the death of rugby as we like it.

A couple months ago oil sprung up in the Gulf of Mexico. Not in a controlled sense mind you, no this super well was opened and the pricks who drilled it were not able to control it meaning that bijillions of litres of the black gold flooded into the Gulf buggering up just about everything from marine life to tourism.

The pricks in question here were none other than those greedy sausage jockeys BP who seem hell bent in drilling holes into everything that isn’t a fetus. They went beyond the limits of acceptable practice, drilling at a depth that was too deep and therefore in nobody’s best interest. And the result? Well goes without saying that they have shot themselves in the foot and pissed off a lot of people in the process.
