This year’s SupeRugby tournament sees the introduction of the White Card to join the yellow and red that already takes pride of place in the refs pockets. What is it? Well it appears to be a speculative bit of bollocks that claims to take pressure off refs and help them remove foul play from the game.

Give him a 'white' ref! Hang on - a what ?
So basically if a ref thinks foul play has taken place but can’t be sure about who is responsible for what, he can wave the white card in the air so a citing commissioner can get onto it as the on-field officials didn’t pick it up. It will also be used to address player complaints on incidents that the ref did not see like a bite here, or an eye gouge there. Apparently this new system is a great way of being more transparent with regards to how things are sent through to the citing commission. On the subject of transparency, the white card has naturally opened up a veritable can of worms in the rugby world. Read more »

We’ve had a look at the SA and the NZ conferences, now in our third and final SupeRugby preview we look at the Aussies. Arguably the least competitive of the three conferences, it still has a fair amount worth considering and worrying about, not least that it holds the defending champs. Let’s kick off with the conference that is without doubt the toughest in the competition – the South African one. Step aside New Zealand, don’t even open your mouths Aussies, the derbies that get dished up between these five teams often lives up to Test match intensity with fierce rivalry meeting a win at all costs approach. Last year the Stormers came out on top after the pool stages, this year however, I reckon it is going to be a whole lot tighter for the top spot and tournament progression.

First goal - win the conference.

What’s the difference between peanut butter and jam? You can’t peanut butter the Kings into Super Rugby! Yeah I know that’s not how the joke goes, but the modified punch line is just as sick. Again with the political bull crap in sport, god how it grates my Dusty Nobles…

The decision is final, but the thought process is pending...
But hey, as South Africans we learn to take things on the chin and move on. The Kings will play Super Rugby in 2013, that is confirmed, what is not confirmed however, are the finer details of how this will happen. Well SARU, despite my dislike for you as an organization, I have devised the solutions for you.
